It was a
few hours after the forecast said
there would be sunny spells before
there were sunny spells yesterday.
On the other hand we may have got
full sunshine a but earlier than the
forecast 1pm. From then on it was
full strength sunshine until the sun
set. The forecast said it would
reach 29° C, and it certainly was
hot, but I can't remember seeing any
more than 28° C on my thermometers.
It was a warm night, although
after the daytime, the night breezes
felt nice and fresh. At the moment the
sky is clear, and the sun is burning
down. It should be like this all day,
and that means the temperature may
reach a beautiful 32° C today.
Tomorrow may be almost the same as
today, but after another warm night
the temperature may rise to 33° C. On
Wednesday rain is forecast !
Yesterday was another day when
I seemed to be, or maybe circumstances
forced me, to be very lazy. I did try
to the otherwise, but that came to
little. Oh well, at least I got my two
deliveries in safely, and I don't have
to worry about any deliveries until
tomorrow now.
Getting my rather overdue
delivery of my second to last
Aliexpress from Evri, yesterday
morning was something to cheer about,
but the excitement didn't last long.
It was just spare test strips for a
blood glucose meter that won't arrive
until tomorrow (hopefully). After I
finished my morning writing I had my
usual rest, and then I had a shower
and washed my hair. At that point I
could have got dressed to go out, most
probably just to Tesco, but...
The big "but" was that I was
expecting a delivery from Amazon, a
birthday present for Ayse, my
favourite barmaid, and it is tricky to
know just when to expect an Amazon
driver. A check on their website
rather unusually gave a prediction of
from 1:45pm to 2:45 pm. It wasn't long
before an extra hour was added to that
prediction. The actual delivery was
just after 3pm, and that it quite
early for Amazon.
With Tesco closing at 4pm on a
Sunday it felt a bit too late to go
shopping there, but with hindsight it
would have probably have been a good
idea. The other thing I should have
done was to finish washing a hand
towel, one t-shirt, and one pair of
underpants. Originally it was just
going to be the towel, but there
seemed no harm in throwing in the
other two items to empty my washing
basket. I had left them all soaking in
detergent after I had had my shower.

Instead of getting on with that
laundry, I had a fixation that I was
going to go for a walk. I didn't
intend to go any further than Ladywell
and back, but I ended up doing a much
shorter walk - just 0.566miles. I was
expecting it to feel glorious walking
in the hot sunshine, but other factors
were at work, although there was also
a factor I had hoped not have to
consider, and that was the deciding
excuse to turn back when I did.
One thing I had not considered
is that walking in that heat would add
some extra stress in the form of
getting the short of breath that isn't
truly short of breath feeling early. I
could also feel some stress on my
heart. It seemed another good time to
have a squirt from my GTN spray. This
time it didn't seem to help as well as
it did the first time I used it. Oddly
enough, I did not really get the sort
of buzz in my head I got last time,
although the tingling under my tongue
indicated I had hit the correct spot.
There was one thing that spray
could not cure, and that was a growing
feeling I would soon need the toilet
for a poo - a feeling I didn't have
until I had been walking for a few
minutes. It was a legacy of the
laxative tablet(s) I had taken about
36 hours or more earlier. I hadn't
actually needed it on Saturday when I
took it (or them ?). I just needed
patience then, but much later in the
day it probably made a visit or two to
the toilet a bit more comfortable.
I think the laxative effect
really cut in yesterday morning, and I
made 3 and maybe 4 visits to the
toilet during the course of the
morning. I think this had a useful
effect that did not show until this
morning. At the time it seemed useful
in so much that I was, or should have
been, very empty when I went out for
my walk, but I certainly began to feel
like there was still more to come.
Rather annoyingly it seemed a false
alarm, and I would probably have been
safe if I had continued to walk.
When I look at my average speed
of 2.3mph, I can't help feel that I
did myself no favours by trying to
walk so fast on such a hot day. Of
course, back in the real world that is
not fast at all, but it is faster than
I can manage these days. One thing
makes it even worse - at the point
where I turned around I didn't pause
the tracker while I was looking at the
river while having a short rest, and
debating with myself what to do. It is
possible I was really trying to push
2.5mph.
It was on the way home when my
chest was starting to get a sort of
heavy feeling, when I used my GTN
spray. As mentioned above, it didn't
give me the same kick as the first
time I had tried it, although I guess
I did feel less uncomfortable when I
got home. I really must remember not
to push myself so hard when I go for
another walk in the very hot sunshine
- and that could be today - possibly.
After I had rested for maybe 20
minutes, and drunk a glass of chilled
water, I should have got back to the
laundry, still sitting in it's big
bucket, and waiting for attention. I
didn't. I continued to rest until the
end of the afternoon, and by "rest" I
mostly mean laying on my bed, with the
fan on me, as I read a book. I had had
some lunch earlier on, and it was rice
crackers and pâté. It seemed a nice
light lunch.
As 6pm approached I considered
my dinner options. I had a look in the
freezer and pulled out an Aldi chicken
korma ready meal. I put it in the
microwave, and left it in there well
after it had cooked for the official
cooking time. In the meantime I looked
through the Freeview electronic
programme guide to see if there was
anything on TV. There was close to
nothing, but I thought it might be
amusing to watch one of the silly
"Mysteries, with William Shatner*"
programmes.
* Captain Kirk from the original Star
Trek series (when he was a fair bit
slimmer).
The programme was a load of old
twaddle, and like a lot of similar
programmes on the Blaze channel, it
asked many questions during loads of
waffle, and answered almost none of
them. Oh well, it was something to
watch as I ate my now just slightly
warm chicken korma. I am unsure about
the rice, but the korma itself was
rather nice. It is a shame it wasn't
about 3 times the size, but it was
probably a good idea that it wasn't.
At 8pm there was the first of
two editions of Have I Got News For
You. The first was not one of the
best, and the second seemed like a
recent repeat, but was still a good
edition. I watched both, and the
second finished at 10pm. That was a
bit later than recent viewing, and
meant that I was late getting to bed,
although that just meant I spent less
time reading before turning out the
light. It was very hot and sticky last
night, but it seemed that despite
thinking otherwise, I was very soon
fast asleep.
Maybe I didn't need to pee as
much last night because I was sweating
some of the excess water off, although
having said that, I don't think I had
to turn over a damp pillow in the
night. I know I had some extensive
dreams last night. All of them were
probably made of shorter dreams on a
common background. One was a dream of
being at work, although I am unsure
just where it was, or even what my job
was.
I seemed to work in a spare
room up a flight of stairs. It was
nice for some peace and quiet, and
that can get the brain working. I
"invented", or at least came up with
an idea for something that might
interest the company. I think it was
video based. I told my first line
manager about it, and he took to the
idea straight away. Despite apparently
explaining the idea, I have no idea
what it was.
What I do remember is that
sooner or later extra tables and
chairs appeared in my room, and it
came to look more like an office
instead of a workshop. Video monitors
appeared everywhere, and it could be
likened more to a TV news studio than
an office. By home time I was really
looking forward to heading home. I
went out the door and found that even
the stairs had been changed. In the
usual position there were only stairs
going up, and I had to go to the back
of the building to find stairs going
down.
My dream did not finish with
leaving the building, although what
happened next had nothing to do with
the company I worked for. I had not
gone down the road far when I came
across a dustcart. It was not like
usual council dustcarts, but was like
a large flat bed lorry with a huge,
swimming pool sized open tank on it.
The dustmen (or "waste operatives")
travelled in the tank near the front
of the tank. In the rear, initially
hidden from view, were a load of
tramps and other vagrants who got free
rides. The dustcart stopped, and one
of the dustmen shouted out "end of the
line boys" and about 6 or 7 vagrants
stood up and clambered over the sides
of the tank.
I woke up then, and went for a
pee. I think that was around 4am. I am
sure I had one or more dreams before I
got up at 6am. Once I was off my bed
(I didn't sleep under any covers) I
went for a pee. I was not surprised
that I only farted when I thought I
would poo, although I feel sure a poo
will come sooner or later. I then
weighed myself. It was not good news.
It was like I had put on 600gm since
yesterday morning.
That weight gain didn't seem
like it would do my blood glucose any
favours, but I was quite surprised.
The Contour meter read a very good
7.6mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter was even
lower at 7.2mmol/l, and even the
Sinocare meter broadly agreed with
these reading. It read 7.8mmol/l. That
is three readings all in the light
green range on my spreadsheet colou
coding. That last happened on 15th May
! The best thing was it happened
without even trying !
There is one important thing I
have to do this morning, and it is to
go and see the vampires to give a
blood sample. This is the one that
will be used to detect breakdown
products from a heart that is not
getting enough oxygen. It may be the
key to speed up whatever is needed to
cure the angina and (sort of)
shortness of breath I get when
exercising. The appointment is for
11:35am, and after that I will
probably go to Tesco. In an ideal
world I would go for some exercise
later, but I will probably choose to
be very lazy....or not.
