09:40 GMT
Yesterday was quite nice. The
afternoon temperature was 16° C,
and the rest of the day was 15° C.
There were sunny spells for all
daylight hours, but sometimes the
sunny periods were a bit short
compared to the grey periods.
This morning is supposed to
feature light rain, but at the moment
it is dry, but a bit dull. The sky is
a light grey colour, but it doesn't
really look like the sort of sky that
rains. This morning seems to have
started at close to 16° C than the
forecast 14° C. Maybe this afternoon
may see 18° C if we are very lucky,
but maybe it will be just a drizzly
16° C as the forecast shows. From mid
afternoon it may just be grey but dry
for the rest of the day. Tomorrow mqay
start at 13° C and some light rain. It
is looking like tomorrow may not be
that nice - most hours are shown as
either light rain or drizzle, and the
temperature may only reach 15° C.
Yesterday was mostly a good
day, and of course the weather did
help make it that way. I had a nice
walk, and it was, as hoped, quite
comfortable wearing shorts. I did not
really expect to wear shorts in
October, let along November. This
month should be the season of frosts
and fogs, but it is looking like it
might be quite benign.
Despite another late start,
possibly because my brain has not
switched to GMT yet, I seemed to be in
no rush to get to the pub for my usual
Wednesday lunchtime Guinness. I had
time to have a short rest after I
finished writing, and then I had a
shower. I had washed my hair the
previous day, and that saved a bit of
time. After drying myself I got
dressed to go to the pub. It seemed
like, and was mild enough to wear a
t-shirt shorts and no coat.

Despite saying I had plenty of
time, and didn't need to rush, it was
12:53 when I started walking, and I
did arrive at the pub a little later
than usual. I walked via the
hospital where I could pick up a
couple of copies of The Metro. My
records show that 0.714 miles is about
the average distance by that route. I
was hoping to say that 2.195mph was a
good time for that walk. In one
respect it was good, and that one
respect was that I did the walk
without using any TNG spray.
I will admit I was very close
to getting angina pains when I got to
the pub, and I could not have gone
much further without significant pain
and discomfort. I was quite pleased I
had managed that far with no
medication. It can't be that my heart
valve is recovering, and so it must
have just been the weather or
something.
It wasn't one of the best times
in the pub, but it is always a bit
variable depending on who is in the
pub, but I still enjoyed myself. One
potentially useful thing is that Ayse
(may favourite bar maid) suggested a
good plummer. He is an old boy who
apparently knows his stuff, and has
done good work repairing a few
problems at Ayse's flat, and other
people she knows.
I gave Ayse my phone number,
and she said she would send the
plumbers number to me. As of this
morning I have heard nothing, but I
can imagine Ayse suddenly seeing my
number on her phone and remembering
what it was all about sooner or later.
I hope she doesn't completely forget
because I bought her a double Brandy
as an advance thank you.
I had my usual two pints of
Guinness, and followed that by a
double Jameson's whiskey before I
left. Maybe I was a little bit drunk,
or maybe I was just distracted by
something, but I forgot to use my
phone as intended.
It was my intention to get the
train back to Catford Bridge Station
so I could pop into the little
supermarket on Catford Bridge and buy
some things. I thought it would be
interesting to measure the distance
from pub to station, and then from the
station to home. For some stupid
reason I forgot to stop the tracker
when I got to Ladywell station.
I just remembered what the
stupid reason was, and it was not that
stupid. My shear chance I got to
Ladywell station just as a train
started entering the station. I did my
best to walk as fast as I could so I
didn't end up getting on the back of
the train (the exit at Catford Bridge
is near the front of the train). It
was all the excitement of getting as
far down the platform as I could
before getting on the train that made
me forget to turn the tracker off.
I didn't bother to sit down for
just one stop, and stayed by the train
door. My phone seemed to keep
receiving GPS date, and that gave a
nice keen plot on my tracking app.
Superficially it looks like the
railway line is straight, but as can
be seen by eye, there is a gentle
curve all the way between the two
stations
Some day, maybe even next
Wednesday, I must do this again, but
this time I hope I will remember to
stop the trackers while I am on the
train. I have always thought that with
the walk to Ladywell station, and then
the walk from Catford Bridge station
to home, the actual distance of the
walking bit it not a great deal less
than the direct walk from home to the
pub. The main positive thing about the
train is having a rest mid walk, plus
being able to get some shopping on the
way home.
My shopping was going to
be some extra strength garlic sausage
for Michael, but they only had normal
strength this time. I hope he finds
that good enough. I also bought a
selection of instant noodles. Most
were of known and loved flavours, but
they had some new ones in yesterday.
One, which I had yesterday as part of
my lunch, was a Japanese instant
noodles with a flat noodle that was at
least half an inch wide. It had a very
thin soup. The "soup base" as many
brands call it, is the actual
flavouring. Some are really delicious,
and some a lot less so.
The one I tried yesterday was a
sort of thin hot and sour "soup". It
was interesting, but I can't say I
liked it enough to bother ever buying
another. I had another for my
breakfast this morning. It had more
sensible round noodles, and was more
Chinese in style (I think). The "soup"
with this one was a sort of slightly
creamy soup which had some mild
spiciness, but nothing that is easy to
decide. The score so far is that I
feel I will probably stick to the more
conventional brands and flavours that
I have learned to love.....but I still
have a couple of new flavours to try,
and maybe one or more will turn out to
be really good.
The other major thing I bought
was two small sliced cakes. One was
flavoured with pistachio, and the
other is a fruit sponge cake. Neither
will be good for the diet I am
supposed to be on, but at least with
the aid of Mounjaro, they will not get
my blood glucose too high (the next
morning). Having said that, my
blood glucose this morning is not that
good, and I only had one slice of one
of the cakes (although I did have a
couple of very syrupy flatjacks as
well yesterday).
It was lucky I had not taken
any useful pictures yesterday, and I
did not have to spend time preparing
them for showing here. After my lunch
I wanted a nice lie down, and a
snooze. I did indeed end up having a
good snooze, but it was not as extreme
as the other day when it seemed like I
managed to sleep right though the
afternoon.
I guess I still did very little
in the afternoon, but one thing I did
remember to do was to look through the
leaflet that comes with the Mounjaro
injector pen. I wanted to check known
side effects to see if headaches were
one listed. They were, but only as a
result of blood glucose getting too
low. I didn't actually check, and
didn't need to because I got my first
bad headache while watching TV not
long after eating. I am very sure my
blood glucose was anything but low
after eating very sweet cake ! I also
ruled out blood pressure as a cause. I
think it was 123/60, and that is
pretty much textbook perfect.
I watched the news while eating
my dinner. The main course was a Jerk
Chicken with rice and stuff. It was
part of Aldi's "Protein" range of
ready meals. In theory it was slightly
low calories and low in sugars.
Fortunately it was still quite nice,
and I think I'll add it to my
"approved" list. I think I had another
slice of cake as a dessert, and if it
wasn't cake it was more likely to have
been a couple of flapjack bars.
Once again I had a very
unproductive even watching the usual
TV programmes, and finally getting to
bed at 11pm. I expected to fall asleep
almost instantly, and I may have done
so, but it was not long before I was
awake again. It may have been the
slightly spicy Jerk chicken, or
something else, but I had some mild
acid indigestion. I had to get up and
chew on some Rennies. I'm not sure how
much sleep I lost. It may have been
slightly less than an hour, but I have
a nagging feeling it might have been
as much as two hours. It is possible
the confusion is because it was 2am
when I went back to bed.
I think I am 90% certain I had
some interesting dreams last night,
but that missing 10% is a significant
area of doubt. If I did dream I can't
seem to remember anything about the
dream, or dreams. I do feel sure it is
because of the change from BST to GMT
that I seemed to be going to bed extra
late recently, and also sleeping late.
It seemed zero effort to sleep until
almost 8am this morning - hours after
sunrise. I did wake up at 6am to go
for a pee, and before I got back to
bed I refreshed the weather forecasts
for today so I could take screen shots
after getting up.
This morning, the result of
some rash eating, and despite doing
some exercise, I seem to have gained
600gm this morning. Some of that could
be because I have not had a poo this
morning. For unknown reasons it
doesn't even seem that I need one. One
of the many "joys" of Mounjaro is to
slow up food and then waste through
the body. This morning I had my first
taste of another known effect of this.
I had an eggy burp where food has laid
in my stomach too long. The retention
of food in the stomach is supposed to
make you feel less hungry, and that is
one way Mounjaro is supposed to make
you lose weight. It is a shame that my
brain sees that as no reason to not
eat !
My blood glucose was OK-ish
this morning, but nothing to be proud
of. The Contour meter read 8.6mmol/l,
and that is getting very close to the
limits. The GlucoRX meter read a
rather better 7.3mmol/l. That is very,
very slightly higher than good enough.
The GlucoFix meter read the highest at
8.7mmol/l. That is even closer to the
mostly safe limit before 9mmol/l where
the first bad things can happen
(although the Hospital Diabetes nurse
says 10.0mmol/l is the actual red
line, and anything over needs action
[unless it is just a one off
reading]).
The main thing on the menu
today should be an afternoon beer
tasting session with Jodie and
Michael. We still have a few
interesting beers to try, but it
should be a social occasion as well.
The trouble is that Jodie will be
stuck reading stuff on her phone, and
Michael will be moaning about
something or another - if it is not
about his wife getting worse, it will
be about how much he hates Catford
(where he lives around the corner from
me !).
