Yesterday was cold and
wet ! The day started with drizzle -
which did not appear in the weather
forecast, although drizzle was shown
for a little bit later. It may have
then been dry until about midday, and
then the tendency to rain got more and
more likely. I think it was just
before 3pm that I thought I heard some
distant thunder. It may have been
something else, but what happened half
an hour later suggested not. We had a
sudden very heavy fall of hail for 5
minutes or so, and then it reverted to
moderately heavy ordinary rain. By
about 6pm the rain had stopped, but we
didn't see any sunny spells as shown
in the forecast. The afternoon
temperature was just a very cold
feeling 7° C.
We
should be having sunny spells
right now, but so far the sun
has not managed to penetrate the
clouds, although I cans ee a
quite bright area of cloud where
the sun should be. This morning
it was cold enough for a frost
on the cars outside in the road,
but today may be warmer then
yesterday - by a single
degree ! 8° C is forecast
to be the afternoon temperature.
No rain is shown for today, and
the percent chances of it are
very small, and it is still
possible that we could get some
sunny spells later. Tomorrow may
be almost the same as today, but
the early morning may not be
quite cold enough for frost, and
5 and 6pm are shown as featuring
full sunshine.
I have no idea how to
describe yesterday. I could
grudgingly say that it was a
fairly good day, or maybe "it
had it's moments", but perhaps I
am too pessimistic because I
definitely improved my health
with the results coming in this
morning.
Just to recap, I started
yesterday morning with a small
weight gain, and a very bad
blood glucose level gain. It
meant I had to be very careful
about what I ate, and on a day
when booze was involved that
took some will power. Before I
started writing my 2,221 words
yesterday I had breakfast pretty
much as usual, but from then on
I had to take care about what I
ate. After I finished writing I
had a slightly shorter lie down
and rest than most mornings.
I stirred myself a bit
sooner so I could wash my hair
and have a shower so I was fit
to receive visitors later. After
that it was time for lunch. If I
hadn't been drinking later I
would have skipped a formal
lunch, and maybe had a light
snack later in the afternoon
when the hunger pains, and sour
stomach became too bad to
ignore. What I had for lunch was
just cheese on rice crackers - a
very low sugar combination, even
if maybe not exactly low
calorie.
One minor bit of
excitement happened at about
2.45pm (or maybe a little
later). It was the delivery of
some beers Jodie had ordered,
and had sent here. She forwarded
on a message from the courier to
say they would be delivered
between 2.35 and 3.35pm. All
couriers, except Amazon, seem to
be able to give an approximate
time of arrival. While waiting
for the delivery I re-arranged
all the beers in all three
fridges, and I managed to almost
clear all the beers (except
those in the door) of the
smallest fridge. The beer
arrived from an unheated van,
and felt chilled even before
going in the fridge.
Jodie was a bit late, and
in consequence she managed to
get off the train at Catford
Bridge just in time to be out in
the heavy hail storm. She
decided to not go to Lidl as she
intended, but to head straight
here via the 320 bus stop behind
Tesco so she could shelter until
the worst was over. She was
pretty soggy when she arrived,
and seemed to have found a huge
amount of patience before she
would check out her new beers.
We were joined by Michael
not that long after 4pm, or
earlier than usual. He grumbled
a lot, but did seem to be in a
happier mood than
recently. He still felt
the need to go on about how he
spent most of his youth doing
nothing but hanging around inn
the West End going to gigs 8
nights a week, and so he is the
worlds number one music
fan....or something.
I think Jodie only opened
two of her new beers, and I had
tasters of both. They were not
the awful sour beers she likes,
and were almost quite the
opposite, but I still can't say
I liked them. Something that
tastes, and looks like melted
ice cream is just not beer in my
book even if it is 5 or 6%
alcohol. Jodie would have
small tasters of the beers I was
sharing with Michael. Of course
it wasn't a perfect balance
because she liked most of what I
was drinking !
Jodie and Michael left
around 6pm, with Jodie rushing
out first to catch a train. I
was not quite as domesticated
yesterday. I barely gave the
glasses a quick rinse before
leaving them on the side of the
sink for a proper wash maybe
today. I think I was too keen to
have my dinner - a sort of
special dinner than was
hopefully (and I think actually
was) fairly healthy and both low
calorie and low sugar.
The first course was two
Tesco "Finest" Scotch Eggs with
a couple of pickled onions, and
some sliced and pickled jalapeño
peppers. My original plan was to
stop at that point, but I hoped
that two tiny easy peeler
oranges, a golden delicious
apple, and a chunk of cheese
would not spoil things too much.
It was almost a good
combination, but I could still
taste those Scotch Eggs much
later in the evening when
burping.
It was too late to see
the BBC 6 O'clock news, but I
did see most of the BBC London
news - not that it was very
interesting. Then it was Star
Trek: Voyager, and finally what
I think was the second to last
episode of The Prisoner. Maybe
tonight it will be the grand,
and totally weird and perplexing
final episode.....unless the
last bit was split over two
episodes. I probably ought to
check before speculating here,
but I think I'll just accept
whatever I see.
I was in bed and feeling
OK just after 9pm, and I read in
bed for possibly less than half
an hour. It is usually the case
that I feel fine when reading,
but start to feel rough after
trying to get to sleep. Last
night was no exception, although
the discomforts were fairly
mild. It all seems a bit vague
now, but I think I might have
got as much as two hours sleep
before waking up for a pee. That
meant going out to the freezing
cold bathroom. That triggered
off angina like pains.
Once again I had to sit
up at my PC to sort out the
chest pains. I was sure that
some of it was indigestion, and
antacid tablets did help a bit.
I checked my blood pressure and
initially it was high, just over
140mmHg, but on a second check a
minute or two later it was down
to just 129mmHg. That suggested
to me it was probably not
angina. One other possibility
was my operation scar tissue
complaining about getting so
cold. Two Ibuprofen tablets, and
10 or 15 minutes after taking
them, proved it to be that scar
tissue, and the tablets really
damped the pain down enough to
go straight back to bed, and to
get back to sleep fairly
quickly.
Sometimes it is actually
the simplest things that cause
the trouble, and I was initially
looking for complex answers to
my pain. After that I seemed to
sleep quite well. It seemed a
bit odd that on subsequent
visits ton the toilet (around
every two hours) it never felt
painfully cold in there - still
not pleasant though. I barely
remember just one dream, and it
seems to be impossible to
describe what was just strange
nonsense. The core of it was
about thin threads from my chest
to a windlass on a boat that was
floating above my head -
presumably in water, but I was
in the dry. It must have been
something to do with my chest
pains, but I can't seem to see
how.
It was just after 6am
when I woke up in such a way
that I knew it was definitely
time to get up. It was like my
mind had exploded out of sleep.
It was then time to brave the
freezing cold toilet, and to
make matters worse, sitting on
the cold toilet seat as I had a
small poo and had a pee. After
that I weighed myself, and it
seemed I had managed to lose the
100gm I had put on the day
before. As I have mentioned
several times recently, 100gm is
with experimental error, and
maybe my weight has not
significantly changed for the
last 4 or more days. Oh well, no
change is still better than any
gain.
The thing I was really
hoping for was that my
horrendously high blood glucose
yesterday had come down this
morning. It had, and quite a
lot. The Contour meter reading
was back down in the light green
at a very good, almost on my new
target, at 7.6mmol/l. The
GlucoRX meter reading was spot
on my current target of
7.5mmol/l. It is a shame that
the Sinocare meter read
typically high again, but even
8.0mmol/l is still fairly good
for me.
Even my blood pressure
was very good this morning. It
was 103/40, and that was on my
first and only reading. It is
possible that the diastolic
pressure of 40mmHg is maybe just
a little too low, but only
maybe. I suppose the challenge
now is to keep all my readings
down, and in the case of my
weight and blood glucose, try
and improve on today's readings.
That could be difficult because
I think I will end up in Tesco
today....and that could bring
temptations.
For other stuff happening
today I have to go back to
Wednesday while I was
frantically waiting to see if
Amazon could finally deliver my
package correctly. While waiting
I checked the balance on my
Tesco credit card. It was good,
better than good, I had overpaid
my last bill and I was actually
£10 in credit. That seemed like
a good time to order more beers.
I was also helped along with the
idea when an email arrived to
remind me I had 217 rewards
points with Left Field Beers
(worth £2.17). I was unsure how
much I had to buy to get free
delivery, but £107, after my
£2.17 reward points, seemed
enough - and it was.
This morning I had a
message to say my beers from
Left Field Beers will be
delivered by APC couriers
between 14:47 and 16:47 today.
That should give me plenty of
time to have a rest (after I
have finished writing), and then
have a quick shower. I could
even consider going for a walk
in the rare sunny spells (I have
seen a couple now, although they
are rather brief), but I think a
walk to Tesco and back will have
to be my exercise for today.
