The forecast sunshine arrived
late yesterday morning, and 2 or 3
hours it clouded over again, and that
was it. The afternoon temperature
reached the forecast 13° C. What
wasn't in the forecast was that the
afternoon featured light rain, and it
became quite damp outside.
The
forecast for today has been
toned down a lot compared to
what was expected a day or two
ago. Mostly all the sunshine has
changed to sunny intervals, and
even worse is that at 8:22am I
am still waiting for the first
sunny spell/interval. Hopefully
it will brighten up soon or the
forecast 16° C is not going to
feel like t-shirt weather when I
go to the pub at lunchtime.
Tomorrow may start with fog, but
it may lift quite quickly to
give a day that may feature a
lot of sunshine - some as sunny
intervals, but many hours of
pure sunshine. It should take
the temperature up to 17° C.
When the sun finally
broke through the cloud,
yesterday morning, it sort of
enthused me to try and be a bit
more productive yesterday. The
fact that the sunny weather
didn't even make it to midday
(and if I recall correctly, not
even to 11am) didn't remove all
enthusiasm, but I didn't do that
much.
I seem to recall we lost
the sunshine before I finished
writing yesterday. It still left
it's mark in so much that I only
had a short rest after I
finished writing, and after that
short rest I went and had a
shower. I thought I was going to
go shopping later, but that
didn't seem to happen. The need
to go shopping was based on the
fact that I won't be going
shopping today. I had plenty of
stuff in the fridge for
yesterday, and plenty of stuff
in the freezer for today,
although I have less choice for
what to have.
After my shower I put a
small amount of laundry in to
soak. It was only a hand towel,
a face flannel, a t-shirt, and a
pair of underpants. Apart from
the towel needing a lot of
rinsing, it seemed like I could
finish the job quite quickly
once I returned to it, but I did
have other stuff to do,
including having some lunch. My
blood glucose was a little high
yesterday morning, and at one
point I was thinking of skipping
lunch.....
By midday, maybe getting
on for 1pm, I felt a lot
hungrier than I should have
done, and it made it easy to
give in and have some lunch. I
had decided on cheese on toast
until I saw the size of the
bread I had left. Both slices
were off the end of the
sourdough loaf, and one was tiny
and the other quite small. I did
indeed toast them, and added
cheese, but I also had some rice
crackers with not melted cheese
on them.
It was not a big lunch by
any stretch of the imagination,
but I still felt the need to be
very lazy for the next hour.
After that hour (which could
actually have been anywhere
between 30 minutes and 90
minutes) I got back to the
laundry. As hoped/expected, it
was easy to wring out the 4
items, but also as expected, the
towel needed more than the
standard 3 rinses. I didn't
bother to do the towel on it's
own, and so every thing got
about 6 rinses - but I did have
a break after about 3 times.
During that break I
started the other "job" I did
yesterday - more video editing
to try and clear the backlog of
The Simpsons episodes I had
recorded on my mini TV. I
probably edited a couple before
getting back to the laundry.
Once I was happy with my rinsing
I hung all the items on a small
clothes horse, and left it all
to dry in the front room with
just a fan on it (no fan heater
- I had a feeling it wasn't
needed).
I had a few more short
breaks, including one or two for
snacks, while top and tailing,
plus advert deleting from The
Simpsons episodes. I think I
managed to archive about 6
episodes, and that left just 5
episodes to do - I later added
another two or three recordings.
Once again I never left myself
any time to watch the edited
episodes, but I did watch most
of the 2 or 3 episodes I
recorded last night.
On reflection, I may have
only had one snack late(ish)
yesterday afternoon. It was some
ready to eat flavoured chunks of
chicken breast. I think it may
have been piri piri flavoured.
Before eating it I checked and I
think the small pack only had
0.9gm of sugar, although that
could have been per 100gm, but
even so, it still made it very
low in sugar content - which
turned out well.
My proper dinner, eaten
while watching the BBC 6 O'clock
news, was my last calorie
controlled ready meal. This one
was another Cod Mornay with peas
and mash. They are small and not
very exciting, but some chilli
sauce on the fish, and a splash
of low salt and sugar tomato
ketchup livened up the peas and
mash. It wasn't quite big enough
to be satisfying, but half a
dozen sugar free, and quite
small, choc chip cookies topped
it off nicely.
The last thing I watched
on TV last night was a repeat of
a 2023 edition of Have I Got
News For You. That finished at
10pm. I was almost tempted to
watch an episode of QI, but it
was a Sandy Tokstig one, and I
was not thrilled by the list of
her guests. I called it a day,
but I did read in bed for maybe
an hour before trying for sleep.
I had some hints that I might
develop heartburn before I tried
for sleep. Maybe it was just
imagination, but I took a couple
of antacid tablets, and I seemed
to get to sleep with no
difficulties.
It all seems very vague
now, but I think I woke up fewer
times than most nights, and so I
think I peed less. There was
some evidence of that later. I
do remember what seemed to be a
very long dream, but I can
almost remember it as lots of
dreams following a common theme.
The dream(s) featured a visit to
a preserved railway station. I
think I was there just to be
nosy, but two people thought I
was there as a volunteer.
The first took me along
to what seemed a bit like a
small church, but was described
as the strawberry beds. There
seemed to be vines or creepers
all over the place, and I think
my task was to remove all the
creepers and vines. Fortunately
I managed to wake up for a pee,
and so avoided back breaking
labour. The other man wanted me
to help in setting up some
computers. They were on a very
tight budget, and I suggested
putting Linux (free to download
and use) on some ex-office
computers bought very cheaply
from Amazon. We seemed to reach
an agreement about it, but once
again I woke up before anything
started.
I think it was 5am when I
woke up and thought that maybe
it was time to get up. It seemed
to be dark outside, and so,
after a pee, I went back to
sleep. I then woke again at
about 6:10am, and I considered
trying for more sleep, but
decided to get up. I went to the
toilet and did a little pee. I
expected to poo as well, but all
I could manage was wind. When I
got on the scales I found I had
put on 300gm. Another small pee,
and a good poo may have reduced
that to no weight gain.
For once, the seeming
reduction in peeing overnight
did signal a good blood glucose
level. Both the Contour and
GlucoRX meter gave a very good
reading of 7.6mmol/l - extremely
close to my current, but rarely
achieved target of 7.5mmol/l.
The Sinocare meter read a little
high at 7.9mmol/l. That puts all
three readings in the light
green zone on my spreadsheet.
That is the first time that has
happened since the 13th
February. Even my blood pressure
was looking good this morning,
but I suppose it looks very good
almost every morning except for
an occasional blip. This morning
it was 110/42.
The main event today
should be a visit to The Jolly
Farmers for a couple of pints of
Guinness, a bit of banter, and
doing the crosswords in The
Metro - unless it is the
bastards turn to compile it for
today. If that is the case I'll
be lucky to get half the quick
clues solved, but it is possible
I'll manage some of the cryptic
clues because they can sometimes
be easier than the quick clues !
The sun has finally come
out, and it feels lovely and
warm through my bedroom windows.
If it can stay out I look
forward to going to the pub with
bare arms. I think I will wear
my sleeveless denim jacket just
for a few pockets to carry a
camera, plus pens, and copies of
The Metro. Depending on how my
feet feel when getting to the
pub, and how I feel when I leave
the pub, I might possibly walk
home through the park.....but
probably won't.
