There was
some nice warm, even hot sunshine
yesterday, but there was not a lot
of it. Much of the day seemed dull
again, and there was a period of
time where it looked like it might
rain. I think yesterday's forecast
was a bit optimistic, but they did
seem to get the maximum temperature
right, or at least very close to it.
I admit I did not keep a close eye
on my thermometers, but the forecast
23° C seemed about right.
The forecast seems very
accurate at the moment - it is very
dull and cloudy ! The temperature
prediction seems to be about a degree
lower than reality, but that is close
enough. If we are very lucky we will
see sunny spells from midday, and full
sunshine from 3pm, but they have made
similar claims in the past and all we
got was more dull and depressing
greyness. The temperature forecast of
just 21° C brings very little joy.
Tomorrow starts a degree cooler, but
there could be sunny spells from 10am,
and they might continue until the end
of the day. No full sunshine is
predicted, but there is a 4% chance of
rain at 10am. Once again the afternoon
temperature may only be 21° C. I'm
think it might be time to get out my
long trousers again soon.
Yesterday could be described as
a good day, but the only really good
bit of it was getting the two lots of
beer I had ordered being delivered.
Admittedly one was a bigger reason for
joy because I was not sure if it would
even turn up. The company was
mysteriously quiet after I made the
order, and then on Monday it all burst
into activity.
One thing I thought I was going
to do yesterday was to have a shower
almost straight after I had finished
writing. I felt like I needed a
shower, but I realised it was getting
too close to the advised beer delivery
time. I was given a one hour slot
between 11:08 and 12:08. I think it
was about 11:30 when the man from DPD
arrived with a big and heavy box of 24
different beers.

As many couriers now do, they
took a picture of me clutching my big
box of beers as proof of delivery, and
that at least one side of the box
showed no damage - the box and
contents were in perfect condition
except for one bottle. That one bottle
had been shaken up enough, and being
bottles conditioned, with live yeast
still working in the bottle, a very
small amount of beer/froth sprayed out
from under the crown cap. It is of no
consequence, and could even be seen as
good sign that the yeast was still
working, and possible the alcohol
content of the bottle had actually
risen a bit.
I spent 10 or 15 minutes moving
stuff around in the fridges, and
managing to get over half the new
bottles and cans chilling in one of
the fridge in the dining room, and one
can that I am sure I am allowed to
drink unsupervised (by Jodie the beer
overlord), is in the kitchen fridge to
chill for future drinking.
With that done I had my post
writing rest rather later than usual -
I had been on high alert for the
courier almost as soon as I had
finished writing yesterday's piece. It
was a fairly small rest before I went
and had my shower. That felt rather
good. The day before, and the night
had been sweaty at times despite not
much sunshine.
After I had finished showering
I put some laundry in to soak. I
deliberately tried to keep it small,
but apart from only two t-shirts,
there were about half a dozen pairs of
underpants. That did not empty my
laundry bag, but it was a good start,
and a start that won't be finished
until this morning.
Time seemed to slip away far
too easily yesterday. Apart from
having a fairly light lunch of an
Aldi, ready made, and rather nice,
tomato and mozzarella salad, with
added corned beef and coleslaw, I
didn't seem to do much, but all too
soon it was time to go on high alert
again as I waited for the next beer
delivery. This one had a two hour time
slot of approx 3pm to 5pm. It arrived
at just before 3:30pm.

Once again I got a proof of
delivery photo of the two boxes. All
the cans were in one box, and just
three well wrapped bottles were in
another box. Once I had opened the
boxes I took out the three bottles and
stored them with the bottles fromm the
first delivery that I could not fit in
the fridge. I couldn't fit any of the
cans in either, and so I left them in
the box they came in for now.
Both deliveries had an itemised
list of what I had ordered. I had not
done it before, but a quick tally up
showed I had ordered, and received 52
bottles and cans. That is quite a bit
of beer. Some, the beers Jodie
approved of, will go quite quickly,
maybe in under a fortnight, and then
she will have to grit her teeth and
suffer some of the beers I chose
because I expect to like them.
At this point I should have
gone back to my laundry, but I didn't.
Before that second delivery I had
received a phone call from my friend
Keith. As usual it started off semi
interested, but after an earlier
warning I would have to drop
everything when the courier arrived, I
saw the courier arrive, and said I
would call him back in 10 or so
minutes.
My phone said my last call to
him lasted 46 minutes, but I think I
might have called him twice with a
brief pause between calls, because I
know it was just coming up to 7pm when
we finished speaking. I had missed the
BBC news, and I was feeling like my
dinner was overdue. When thinking
about my dinner I realise what I had
was what I described as my lunch
further up the page. That lunch was
actually rice crackers and some pâté.
I think it might have included some
ice cream. I had 4 ginger biscuits as
a dessert after my dinner of the salad
with added corned beer as previously
described.
I ate my dinner while watching
Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was
a sort of cute episode, and although I
ignored the commercial breaks by
reading stuff on the internet, I
watched the whole thing. Meanwhile my
laundry was still soaking in
detergent. When Star Trek: Deep Space
Nine started I tried to do more of
that laundry during the commercial
breaks. I did manage to wring out the
detergent, and got as far as getting
everything in the second rinse water,
before either giving up for the day,
or doing more when I would, and did
got to bed. That was after watching
Have I Got News For You.
Soon after 10pm I was reading
on my bed, and maybe 20 minutes later
I was fast asleep. last night was
another night when I know I got up to
pee 3 or 4 times, but the memory of it
is more like a hazy dream. The only
thing about my sleep that I have a
partial memory of is a dream - except
that sometimes I think I was awake,
and still exploring the subject of the
dream - a sort of idea about how to
present files on a computer screen.
It was a strange idea where
folder of photographs (but it would
still be relevant to other stuff) were
colour coded between light grey
through to black in order of
importance. The idea was that you
would never have to bother with
anything that was not coded black.
Somehow this had brought about the ire
of the tabloids who claimed that stuff
was being hidden from them - even if
it was "hidden" in plain sight.
The very idea seemed like it
could be easily possible, but maybe
not very desirable. I know I was
thinking about the possibilities of
how it might actually work in real
life when I was awake. At least I
think I was awake. The lines between
sleep and being awake are very
blurred. It probably meant that my
last hour in bed was possibly less
than an hour of the sleep I could have
had.
I was quite happy to be busting
for a pee when I finally got up. That
big pee was responsible for a 300gm
loss of weight this morning. I am now
hovering on the edge of having to
change the colour of the figure in my
technicolour spreadsheet of daily
weights so far this year. (With just
one single figure every morning I can
get the whole year on one
spreadsheet). Just 100gm would be all
that is needed to change from dark
green to light blue. Just 8 times this
year, all in the last couple of
months, have even used dark blue. I am
aiming to make dark blue more regular,
but it seems every time I manage it, a
disaster happens, and I am back into
light green territory.
My blood glucose is not great
but not bad this morning. The Contour
meter read 7.0mmol/l, and I guess that
is very good. The GlucoRX meter read
7.4mmol/l, and that is just under my
current target, and so must be very
good too. The Contour Plus, as often
happens, let me down again with a
reading of 8.2mmol/l, although that is
still fairly good - except it feels
wrong again. Today I should get new
test strips for my new NHS supplied
meter, and that seems to match well
with the Contour and GlucoRX meters.
The big thing today will be
another Wednesday lunchtime (and a
bit) in The jolly Farmers. I will
probably take along one of my bottles
of Aldi own brand Tequila Rose so Ayse
(my favourite barmaid) can try it (if
she has not bought her own from Aldi).
I'll suggest she lets other people who
she knows could be curious about it,
have a taster as well. It is a rather
odd, and somewhat naughty, to bring
your own booze to a pub, but I know
Ayse will not complain.
One thing I ought not do is to
get too drunk this lunchtime - which
probably means Kevin will drop in, and
extra drinks wil be had ! It is not
essential, thank goodness, but on my
way home I will go via the pharmacy
where they will hopefully have my next
repeat prescription bagged up and
ready to take home. It should include
test strips for my new, NHS supplied,
blood glucose meter. I may start
officially using it, and recording the
results on my spreadsheet next month,
and my Contour Plus meter will then
become redundant. I will probably
still use it to check my blood glucose
before then, just not record it on the
main part of the spreadsheet (just a
note on the side).
