I
nearly made the error of saying
the rain had stopped because I
couldn't see it through the net
curtains, but then I saw all the
ripples of falling rain in a big
puddle across the road. It seems
the rain that started last night
continues, but the forecast says
it should be dry, but dull by
9am. The rain may start again at
3pm, and continue until
8pm. It is just a bit over
10° C now, but this afternoon,
at 3pm, in the middle of the
rain, it could be a quite warm
19° C. It looks like it could be
a dry night. Tomorrow may
feature a lot of sunny spells,
and some hours may feature non
stop sunshine. It may be a
slightly windy day, and that
could hold tomorrow down to a
maximum of just 14° C.
Yesterday was one
of those days which seemed half
OK, but nothing really happened.
In the whole day I only did two
things of any significance -
provided I omit eating. I did
and didn't eat too much, or
maybe I didn't eat a great deal,
but what I ate may not have been
the healthiest options.
The first big event
(actually the only event)
yesterday was the delivery of my
last beer order (the one that
should be delivered today was
more like a joint effort between
me and Jodie). I was notified
that it would delivered between
11:09 and 12:09. That gave me
ample time to finish writing,
and have a rest. Luckily I
suspected that the delivery
might be early, and it was. My
doorbell rang at about 10:20am,
and a few minutes later I was
opening the box.
Looking through the
beers, I thought that there was
a fair chance there could be
quite a few beers that Jodie had
not previously tried. In once
case I think she had tried the
beer in the days before she
started recording all her beer
drinking on the website Untappd
(dot come), and so she has the
perfect excuse to try that beer
again. Of course it is
usually the case that she will
tell me she has already drunk
some of what I think of as rare
exotic beers. Somehow that seems
unusual these days because she
mostly seems to followed just a
few breweries, and will go to
insane lengths to go to some of
the small beer cafés, and the
like, when they announce they
have new beers from some brewery
or other.
The other pleasant thing
about the beer delivery was that
once I had emptied the big box
they came in (some into the
fridges, some on top of the beer
fridges, and the rest in a
smaller box) I had the pleasure
of standing in the very pleasant
sunshine while cutting up the
box to put it in the recycling
bin. Had I been washed and
dressed I might have gone out to
retrieve the 1954 made, third
rail insulator pot, I saw on my
walk through South Norwood
Country Park.
I didn't go out for a few
reasons. One was that I needed a
shower before facing the public.
Another was that my guts didn't
feel all that stable at that
time. (I think I did make a
short visit to the toilet
sometime in the next hour or
two). The final reason was that
I wanted to get some laundry
done. It should have been a very
simple bit of hand washing
because it was just a single
hand towel, and two face
flannels.
I put those items in to
soak, and by doing so I blocked
the bath (although I could have
yanked one of those heavy
builders buckets out if I felt
the need to shower). By then it
was time for some lunch. I had
several snacks between then and
dinner time, and I can't seem to
remember the order I ate them. I
think the first thing was closer
to a meal that could be called
lunch even though it was
(probably) rice crackers with
cheese and mustard pickle. The
mustard pickle adds a nice tang,
but sadly that stuff seems
loaded with sugar (particularly
the Branston branded version).
After lunch settled down
I got back to the laundry. It
was a fairly easy job, but
unfortunately a very boring one,
to finish washing those three
items. The big trouble was the
hand towel. Like all towels it
needed endless rinses to try and
get the rinse water clear (or
clear of bubbles and foam).
After maybe 5 rises I got bored,
and went and took a rest. It may
have been at that time when I
had a small amount of plain
vanilla ice cream. That
particular one had quite a low,
high amount of sugar in it.
Another 5 rinses later,
and I decided I could not be
bothered to do any more rinses.
The rinse water was still not
completely clear, but it seemed
good enough. I hung the three
items on the small clothes horse
in the front room, which was at
about 20° C just from the
earlier sunshine. I didn't
bother with any more heat, but I
did use a desk fan to keep the
air moving around that laundry
to help it dry.
I am sure I had another
snack after doing that, although
it may have been possible that I
decided it was too near dinner
time. I think I probably
read for the next half an hour
or so before it was time to
switch on the TV for the 5pm
showing of Star Trek: The
Original Series (with Kirk and
Spock). I could have spent more
time reading yesterday, but I am
still struggling to enjoy
reading the collection of short
stories by Philip K. Dick. The
big problem is that so far they
have all been products of the
1950s, and feel rather dated.
Pictured above is what was the
main course of last nights
dinner. It was actually more
like chilli beef grated carrot
with some noodles. It was not
that bad, and I may consider
buying another one to keep in
the freezer until a suitable
day comes along. It's main
downfall was the rather high
sugar content - 9.3gm
according to the "traffic
lights" colour coded nutrition
panel on the bottom right of
the box. It seems odd that the
sugar content is shown as
green, but by my reckoning it
should have been at least
amber like the salt content.
While continuing to
watch TV, and it was the 6
O'Clock news on The BBC, as I
ate my main course, I waited
for a boring bit (Sport) and
dashed down to the kitchen to
prepare a dessert. It was just
fruit, and so by some metrics
it was healthy, but it was
soft fruit, two kiwi fruits,
and a nectarine, and could
have contained a lot of sugar,
but maybe not. The Kiwi fruits
were supposed to be ripe and
ready to eat over a week ago
when I bought them, but they
were still very hard, and very
tart. The Nectarine was only
just ripe, and definitely
still far from sweet.
There was quite a lot
of TV on last night, and the
last thing I watched was an
episode of QI that finished at
11pm. By then I was feeling
very tired. I felt so tired
that I didn't even bother to
read before trying for sleep.
I just turned out the light,
and prepared for sleep. For a
moment or two I though I was
going to suffer from insomnia,
but the next thing I new I was
waking up for a pee. I think I
slept for 3 hours before that
happened.
I think I may have only
woke twice more for a pee, and
each time it may have been
after 3 hour sleep. I had
drunk at least one litre of
chilled water before going to
bed, and so each time I peed
it seemed to be a big one.
Twice when I woke up I seemed
to feel a bit cool, but like
some previous time, my room
thermometer said it should
have felt quite warm. It might
have been that my metabolism
had reached a low state
because I was sleeping so
deeply, but the amount of
yawning I am doing now seems
to contradict that.
I do remember one
seemingly long dream I had. I
know it must have been several
shorter dreams because there
were obvious gaps in the story
line. The dream was about a
visit to a theatre for a show
in two halves. The first half
was music, and although I
don't recall seeing a band
play, I knew that the band
were The Dave Clark Five. It
was like that bit of my dream
was blanked out - it jumped
from arriving and sitting
down, to leaving the
auditorium for refreshments
during the interval.
The actual interval was
also blanked from my memory,
and the dream seemed to
continue with me trying to
find my seat to watch part 2.
It seemed that everything was
re-arranged while I was out of
the auditorium, and I could
not find my correct seat, I
saw an empty one at the end of
an aisle near the front, and
sat down there. Moments later
I was asked to move, with my
chair, because apparently the
space was booked for a
wheelchair user. I was now
nearer the front, and it did
not seem to be a good place to
be.
Part two seemed to be a
live performance by Monty
Python's Flying Circus, and it
was to be very interactive -
hence why being so close to
the front may not have been a
good idea. In the end it just
seemed to be a mess because
small groups were doing some
of the famous sketches all at
the same time on different
parts of the stage, and even
down at audience level. It
seemed to be such a mess that
I quickly became bored with
trying to follow what was
going on, and decided to go
home. I think getting out of
the theatre was a bit of an
adventure, but I can't seem to
remember it clearly enough to
describe it.
I woke up initially
feeling bright and fresh at
just after 6am. I now wonder
if another hour of sleep might
have been a better idea than
getting up. I went to the
toilet for another big pee,
and I thought I would have a
poo as well, but that turned
out to be gas. I did have a
rare very late night poo, and
so maybe it might be a little
while until I poo today.
Nevertheless, somehow I seemed
to have lost 300gm this
morning. I now seem to be back
to the point where my weight
could drop to the next whole
kilogram down again. (That did
happen on Sunday, but on
Monday it was back up again.
I seemed to eat a few
things that might not have
been good for my blood glucose
yesterday, and indeed they
left their mark, but my
readings were all in that not
good, and not bad sort of
region. The Contour meter read
8.6mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter
read 8.5mmol/l - once that was
the target I was aiming for
when my my readings tended to
be higher. The Sinocare meter
was in agreement with the
other two meters on anther
rare occasion. It read
8.7mmol/l.
The next thing to
happen today should be the
delivery of the box of beers
that Jodie and I ordered on
Sunday. The tracking info says
it will be arriving in
approximately 90 minutes. That
will give me time for a short
rest after I have finished
writing this and uploading it
to the web server. I will then
go on high alert status until
the delivery takes place.
It is really grim
outside at the moment, cold
and quite dull, and it will
probably stay this way until
2pm, and soon after that it
will start to rain again (I
think it has stopped now).
That weather gives me every
reason to stay in. I think it
is very likely I will go out,
but only to and from Tesco. I
can't imagine going any
further. It could be a boring
afternoon, and one where it
might be hard not to eat all
the goodies I expect I will
buy in Tesco.
