Statistics say that one day's
weather will usually be like the day
before, and that holds good for
yesterday. It was another bland sort
of day - not very sunny, and not
very warm. Although not shown in the
early forecast, there was even a
light sprinkle of rain early last
night. The day started at around 6°
C, and the afternoon peaked at just
14° C.
The
best thing that can be said
about today's weather is that it
started at about 10° C, and as I
write this it is 15° C. There is
no sunshine to warm things up
further, but it may be that by
mid afternoon it could be higher
than the 16° C forecast -
possibly by a couple of degrees.
I have no idea why the BBC
includes rays of sunshine around
a black cloud with rain leaking
from it, but the Met Office
forecast cuts straight to the
bone and just shows dark grey
clouds for the afternoon. They
only show light rain, and no
thunderstorms are shown. Maybe
if the afternoon warms up enough
to start feeling muggy there
could be a crack of thunder, but
probably not. Tomorrow could
feature a lot of sunshine or
sunny spells, and the
temperature could peak at 18° C.
That could be the day to do
stuff !
Yesterday was not
really a good day, or you could
say the consequences of
yesterday were not good ! The
grey start to the day dampened
any enthusiasm to do more than
the minimum. It might, but
probably wasn't, all to blame
for some bad eating choices.
One of the things about
yesterday was that I was
expecting the delivery of a new
t-shirt from Amazon (half of an
order that included a pair of
wide fitting trainers I thought
I would try - they should arrive
before Friday). The t-shirt is
of the European flag. I chose it
to piss off some rabid
Brexiteers. There was a very
outside that the t-shirt
delivery could have been early,
and so I only had a very quick
shower.
Of course, before the
shower I had written yesterday's
electronic diary entry, and then
had my traditional rest
afterwards. I am sure I had a
possibly brief snooze during
that rest. I must admit it was
with some reluctance that I went
to the rather cold bathroom
(where I had closed the part
open window only an hour or so
earlier). Once I had my quick
shower I waited, and waited.....
During the wait I had
some lunch. It was probably not
the wisest choice, and it could
have been nicer. It was a whole
pack of 4 onion bhajis from the
Bilash, "A taste of India" range
from Aldi. They were nice, but
maybe 5 or 10 minutes in the
oven to crisp them up may have
made them nicer. I did note that
their sugar content was not that
low, and I was too scared to see
how many calories were in them.
The good thing, or so I hoped,
was that they would line my
stomach a bit against an influx
of beer.
At 2pm I thought I had
better do a quick tidy up in the
kitchen, and the dining room
table. That included giving the
beer glasses a rinse and polish.
With that done it was back to
waiting. That wait was extended
when I got a message from Jodie
to say she was going to be
either later, or very late. She
was travelling from Alan's
house, and had to go via London
Bridge. She had just 5 or 7
minutes to change trains there,
or face a half hour wait for the
next train.
Fortunately she made her
connection (I have found that 3
minutes is usually enough time
to change trains at London
Bridge, unless it is from
platform 14 to platform 1 !).
She arrived at about 3:50pm, or
almost an hour later than her
last two, earlier than usual,
visits. By about 3:35pm I opened
my first beer, and so started
quite a bit of boozing ! When
Jodie arrived she had brought 2
bottles of Polish beer with her
that she had bough somewhere on
her travels.
Jodie started out with a
few tales to tell, but later
almost ignored me in favour of
scrolling through stuff on her
phone - as usual. We did have a
few good beers, and few that
were not so good, and also a few
that were "OK". I already knew I
was going to get drunk, and
didn't really care, although
oddly enough, I didn't seem to
feel all that drunk. Maybe it
was just a different sort of
drunkenness. One obvious
difference was getting a typical
hangover headache at around
midnight.
Jodie left at about
6:30pm, and I quickly made up my
dinner. It was another bad
choice that was almost forced on
me to avoid wasting food. It was
two hamburgers with a slight
difference. The buns were the
last two of the pack of 4 white
rolls with melted cheese on top
that I bought from Aldi on
Saturday. The burgers were the
last two Aberdeen Angus beef
burgers, also from Aldi. I added
a bit of sliced cheddar cheese,
and some horseradish sauce.
They were pretty
good, and I would say rather
better than any fare from the
likes of McDonald's. The bad
thing was the buns/rolls. Apart
from the melted cheese topping,
there were typical soft white
rolls, and although I didn't
actually check, such bread is
usually full of sugar - and I
don't think anyone knows why. It
could be an American influence.
Those yanks like sugar, or even
worse, high fructose corn syrup,
in or on anything.
I would have made things
worse by a dessert of a helping
of ice cream. It was a plain
vanilla ice cream that seems to
have a little less sugar than
many, and I did try and eat
little more than one scoop.
STOP PRESS !! I
have just had a sort of
disaster. The top of my 2/3rds
drunk bottle of Diet Coke has
just slipped from my fingers,
and rolled under a small chest
of drawers, and I can't even
see it now, let alone rescue
it without pulling the whole
house apart... sort of.
I didn't think there was
a lot, or indeed anything on TV
for me to watch last night, but
I did watch some repeats of The
Simpsons, including one episode
I was not really familiar with.
Those episodes continued long
enough that I could then switch
channel to see a compilation of
the best bits of Have I Got News
For You which I think ran from
9pm to 10pm. I went straight to
bed after that, and I think I
barely read one paragraph from
my book before I turned out the
light and fell asleep.
It was a little before
midnight when I woke up for a
pee, but I could not go straight
back to bed. By then I had
developed a quite rare for me
these days, hangover style
headache. I spent the next 30 to
40 minutes at my PC while I let
a couple of Paracetamol tablets
do their stuff. They worked well
enough to get a lot more quality
sleep - at least I think it was
quality. I wasn't actually
timing it, or measuring it, but
I came away with the impression
that I woke less frequently for
a pee than usual, and I think I
peed less than usual.
There was one dream I
part remember, and it was
another unusual one. It was set
in my days of working for Post
Office Telecomunication (or
maybe British Telecom in the
days before it was just
shortened to BT). It was
obviously set in a telephone
exchange building, but not
actually near the exchange
equipment. It was a dream about
the Clerical Assistant (although
only as a sort of composite of
quite a few whose paths I
crossed during my career).
The dream seemed to be
set in a time not that long
after I finished my
apprenticeship. I was a young
man, probably barely 20 years
old. The Clerical Assistant
would have been in her late
thirties, and to a 20 year old
seeming like an old woman. (The
days I would consider more like
a young girl !). She was
friendly and chatty, but quite
fiercely defended her little
empire. You had to have a fairly
sound reason to ask for clerical
supplies from her.
In the dream I kept
wanting to go down to her lair,
and my excuse was to ask for a
pocket address book. Such things
may not have existed in reality,
but they did in the dream, and
they were stored in cabinets
outside her office. Usually I
went there with some reluctance,
but in the dream I kept wanting
to go there, and I didn't
understand why. I am not sure if
the reason came up in the dream,
or maybe after waking up to go
for a pee. I might have even
realised it while having my pee.
Like cats and dogs, and
probably most mammals, she must
have come on heat, and was
releasing pheromones - scents
we, as humans can't actually
detect...or so many scientists
say. I am not so sure. I am sure
I have reacted to "something in
the air" once or twice in the
past, and in the dream it was a
strong reaction. I felt quite
horny, but didn't realise it was
for a woman almost twice my age.
Oh dear, opportunities
missed.....
When I got up, around
6:30am, I went for a pee, and
had no trouble having a poo as
well. In fact I went twice for
luck (or something)(and again
not that long ago). For all that
I still seemed to have put on a
whole 1.1kg - which should be
impossible. On the other hand it
could be part explained by not
peeing much in the night. That
might suggest I didn't need to
pee much because somehow my
blood glucose was nice and low.
Sadly, my blood glucose
was rather high this morning.
The Contour meter read
8.9mmol/l, and that is about as
high as I am just OK with. The
GlucoRX meter read 9.8mmol/l,
and that is close to the red
line, and starting to get
dangerous. The Sinocare meter
read 9.2mmol/l. For once it was
not an insanely higher reading
from that meter, but that is
still a lot higher than is good
for me.
This morning I considered
doing a fast until dinner time,
but if the day is as bad as
forecast it would be too
miserable to stick with that.
(Actually, it is quite bright as
I write this, although there is
no actual sunshine). I decided
that I would have my normal
breakfast of instant noodles,
but chose the Korean Kimchi
noodles that claim to have zero
sugar content, and only 59
calories per pack (so I have had
118 calories - which I think is
quite small for breakfast).
In an ideal world I would
go out for a couple of hours of
(very slow these days) walking,
but it is not ideal weather.
Also in an ideal world, that is
not a good thing. I can find
plenty of my own examples of
going out walking on some filthy
days, but in the days when
walking was a pleasure, and not
a task. Aside from the weather,
I can't say I feel like walking
today. Tomorrow, with
potentially some nice weather, I
will have no good excuses and I
probably will go out.
Another reason for
not going out today, although
maybe only valid for a short
while now, is that I am still
making occasional visits for a
poo. I think I know the reason
for some of my weight gain, and
it's now subsequent loss. I
don't actually have anything as
drastic as the runs. Each visit
to the toilet has no immediate
urgency to it, although I would
not like to wait too long before
going.
I think I now know some
of my plans for today. I have
two small white towels I want to
wash today. One of them is the
slightly larger than a hand
towel, but slightly smaller than
a bath towel, that is my
favourite bath towel. I will
start that wash once I had had a
quick shower, and got one more
use out of the towel before it
goes in the wash. I also want to
wash my brand new t-shirt. It is
blue, and will be probably OK to
wash with whites after a few
washes, but today it will be
washed on it's own.
Another part of my plan
for today is to check my blood
glucose at around midday. If it
has gone down enough, as it
should if those Kimchi noodles
really do have zero sugar
content, I will probably allow
myself a light lunch of probably
rice crackers and maybe cheese.
I know my weight has already
returned back to the weight I
recorded first thing this
morning after pooing out an
equivalent weight to my
breakfast and all I have drunk
since then. It is still
pretty awful compared to the
best days this month.
