The
weather was not nearly as bad as the
forecast predicted for yesterday.
Unless I somehow missed it, there
was very little of the forecast
rain....or on second thought, maybe
just a bit less rain. There seemed
to be no sunshine in the morning
when it was forecast, but there were
sunny spells in the afternoon when
it was supposed to be raining. I'm
not sure about the temperature. It
didn't seem to feel as low as 15° C,
the forecast temperature after a
brief peak at 16° C in the morning.
Today
should hopefully be a much nicer
day than the previous couple of
days. Quite a few sunny spells
are forecast, and the
temperature should peak at 20° C
for a few hours from mid
afternoon. However, at midday,
and 1pm, there is a 28 and 29%
chance of rain. No rain is
actually shown for those hours,
but it doesn't seem to be a low
enough chance to completely
ignore it. Tomorrow may start at
just 14° C, and although
probably dry, it is shown as
very dull and murky until the
afternoon. From 5pm there could
be some sunny spells.
Yesterday was a funny old
day. On the face of it, it
should have been a terribly dull
and boring day, but it seemed to
be almost pleasant.....well,
some of the time. I think I only
did two significant things, and
one of those was doing another
order from Amazon.
Before I start on
yesterday I need to go back to
Monday. As I wrote yesterday, I
made a half hearted attempt to
go to the station for some train
photography, but turned back
half way. What I forgot to write
is that when I was home again I
went into the kitchen. I was not
intending to eat anything, and
didn't, but I just thought I
would check everything was all
OK having not been in the
kitchen since about 7pm the day
before.
What I found in the
kitchen was an upside down mouse
trap with a dead mouse in it. I
knew there was still a mouse in
my kitchen because I had spotted
it on my trail camera, but I
seemed had made all my food
mouse proof, and it was probably
not eating enough to leave any
droppings. The trail camera
showed it was very wary of the
mousetrap, but it must have got
so hungry it took a chance on
the bit of walnut that I had
baited the trap with. That was
it's downfall. The trap worked
as intended, and came down right
on the neck, and probably
severed the spinal chord. It was
probably a painless death.
Yesterday started off
well when I found that my
fasting for most of Monday had
reset my blood glucose and
weight to roughly where before
it all went tits up after my
beer festival delights, and
fried chicken and chips. That
was a reason to be happy, the
very grim looking weather
forecast was a reason to be
anything but happy. My writing
took a little longer than usual
because I had written 2,203
words, and I didn't seem to be
writing very quickly.
After writing I had my
usual lie down, and with the
cold grey sky outside I felt no
desire to do anything else, but
that does get boring after a
while. I think it was then that
I went online to Amazon's web
site to see if they had the
other three Red Dwarf novels
available. It is the second of
the four books that I have been
reading, and it has been
strangely enjoyable. I get the
feeling that writers, Grant and
Naylor, were writing stuff that
was too long or detailed to
shrink down to a TV episode.
I found the other three
books available, but
unfortunately the first book
only seemed to be available as
part of a double book with the
second story - which I am just
about to finish. It is a shame
to have to, in effect, buy two
copies of the same book, but
there seemed to be no
alternative without taking
chances on the second hand
market - a couple I did check
seemed to still be the double
book edition.
While I was on Amazon I
thought I would check to see if
the Adidas trainers I bought a
couple of weeks ago were cheaper
or more expensive. I eventually
found them, and they were more
expensive - but with free
delivery, and that evened it up.
I also spotted a similar pair
that had the word "Wide" in the
name. It did not specifically
say wide fitting, but I assumed
that is what it was. They also
had them in size 11.5, and
sometimes, possibly depending on
the manufacturer, that point 5
often means wider.
They were no more than a
quid or two more than the other
pair, and so I took a chance and
ordered them. If my current pair
are almost comfortable, then
these new ones should be even
more comfortable - hopefully. I
should get them on Saturday -
which often means Friday ! I
particularly hope they are
comfortable for the longer walks
I really hope I will be able to
do in the hotter summer weather.
There was one other thing
I had to do yesterday, and it
was to finish the laundry I had
started the day before. It just
needed one more rinse and then
conditioner before I could hang
it up to dry. The start of the
job was not nice - having to
wring out the second rinse water
which was, or seemed, freezing
cold. There were two t-shirts
and 6 pairs of underpants to
hang up to dry on the big
clotheshorse in the front room.
There was no point in even
thinking of putting them on the
washing line if it was going to,
and did rain.
I just managed to wring
out the clothes after the fabric
conditioner, but needed a pee. I
took off my Marigolds for that.
Instead of putting them straight
on I had a strange urge for some
ice cream. It was intended to be
my lunch. I intended to have
just a small portion but I
realised I was getting near the
bottom of the 500ml tub, and
ended up eating the lot. I then
went back to hanging up the
clothes to dry.
I think I then came to
the conclusion that I had
nothing else to do (which
doesn't include stuff like other
housework like hoovering), and
that made me feel a bit low as I
watch raindrops running down the
windows. I added to my lunch by
eating four small packets of
crisps. Two were Hula Hoops, and
they are fairly low in calories
and sugar. The other two were
square crisps, and like the Hula
Hoops, they individually,
were close to healthy-ish.
My now combined lunch
meant that I had to restrain
myself to eating a very light
dinner. Once again I turned to
slices of cheese on rice
crackers. This time I put chilli
Kimchi on each cracker with
cheese. The chilli version of
the Kimchi was much nicer than
the turmeric, ginger and garlic.
So much nicer that after the
cheese and crackers ran out I
ate the rest of the jar with no
accompaniment. If I see more jar
of it in Aldi, where I bought
the last two, I will definitely
get another jar of the chilli
version. It is possible that
Tesco may have something
similar, although the last jars
I tried in tesco I didn't really
care for.
Last night was almost a
typical night of watching TV. I
watched the news and the usual
Star Treks, but when it came to
9pm, and I would usually watch
have I Got News For You, or
QIXL, depending on which was on
first, I turned the TV off.
There was an edition of QIXL on,
but I don't think I care for all
three of the guests. I headed to
my bed to do some reading. I
almost finished the Red Dwarf
book last night, but I began to
feel sleepy. I put the book down
at the end of a chapter, and now
there can't be more than a dozen
pages to read until I have
finished it.
It is hard to say when I
fell asleep. I am fairly sure I
was not waiting for very long
for sleep to overtake me, but I
was not watching the time. I
guess it was probably not long
after 10pm. I seemed to sleep
quite well last night. It seemed
to be another night of maybe 3
hours between waking to go for a
pee, and doing bigger pees in
compensation. I know I had some
dreams, and I feel like at least
one was very enjoyable, but I
can't seem to remember a thing
about any of them.
I was slightly
disappointed when I got up this
morning. I went for a pee, but
didn't poo, and then weighed
myself. As I got on the scales
it seemed to take them a long
time decide what weight to
shower. The display flittered
between two figures 100gm apart.
Sadly it settled on the higher
one, and that was 100gm higher
than yesterday. I had hoped my
eating restraint might have gone
towards a slight weight loss.
I was also a bit
disappointed when I checked my
blood glucose. Yesterday I
described as rather typical -
which is OK, but higher than I
strive for. This morning the
average of all three was
fractionally lower (or 0.03
lower - really just a trivial
amount). The Contour meter read
8.5mmol/l - spot on my old
target. The GlucoRX meter read
8.1mmol/l, which is clser to
what I hope for. The Sinocare
meter read the highest at
8.7mmol/l, but that seems tame
for that meter.
My blood pressure is
still in the "Optimum" area, but
a little bit higher than average
at 113/45. I am not going to
worry about that ! Today I will
get a bit of exercise. It is
Jolly Farmers day, and I will be
going for (probably) my usual
two pints of Guinness, and
trying to do the quick, and
cryptic crosswords in The Metro
newspaper. There are several
variables for this outing.
If it seems nice and
bright In may walk to the pub
without getting the train. I
probably will get the train home
so I can buy some fruit, and
other stuff in the little
supermarket on Catford Bridge.
The other unknown is whether
Kevin will join me. He has said
it is possible, but with a
backup plan for another drink in
Hayes (Kent) tomorrow. If he
turns up today it is unlikely I
will have just 2 pints of
Guinness, but I hope it won't be
a lot more.
