A
lot of yesterday was overcast, and
so the promised sunny spells were
quite thin on the ground until maybe
mid afternoon. At about, or probably
a bit earlier, we did have some very
strong sunshine, and outside my
south facing front door it felt like
entering a blast furnace when I just
pooped out to the wheelie bins. I
think the sun mostly stayed out
after that, and the temperature
probably hit the 27° C forecast.
This morning has started off
with full sunshine, and the forecast
says full sunshine should last the
whole day long. No rain at all is
forecast (which doesn't necessarily
mean we won't have a thunderstorm or
snow), and the temperature should
reach 29° C, but only for a single
hour at 5pm. Tomorrow may start
dull and at only 17° C. The dullness
may last until 10am when there may be
sunny spells until 5pm when we may see
full sunshine until sunset. Tomorrow
may feel almost cold with just 24° C
forecast. Sunday may see full sunshine
almost all day, but it will be cooler
at just 23° C. Winter is on it's way !
Yesterday was another fair day.
I did at least one thing I was not
sure I would do, and I didn't do one
thing I wanted to do. It was another
day when time seemed to slip through
my fingers, before I knew it, it
seemed too late to do some stuff I was
thinking of doing - and that happened
several times.
It was my intention to write
less yesterday, but I actually wrote
2,170 words, and that was slightly
more than the previous day. When you
add in the small delays each time I
added a picture to the narrative, it
worked out that I finished writing a
fair bit later than expected. I still
had two things to do, plus have my
usual rest after writing, before I
could think about the other stuff that
I could have done.
After my rest, the first thing
I had to do was to finish washing a
small hand towel I had left soaking in
detergent overnight. Wringing out a
small hand towel, and not a thick
fluffy one, was fairly quick, but like
all towels it seemed to need a lot of
rinsing. I got bored after 8 rinses,
and it seemed not much soap was coming
off, and I left it at that. With my
big washing buckets out of bath I
could have my morning shower - at gone
midday !
There was still time for me to
go shopping in Aldi. I might
potentially have found a new beer or
two in there. That would have been
handy for later because my beer
fridges were looking a bit sparse for
the afternoon beer drinking session.
The trouble was that I seemed to have
no enthusiasm to walk to Aldi and
back. I'm not really sure why that
was. It was probably just laziness,
but I chose not to think of it that
way.
What I did do was to go online
to order new beers from
Left
Field Beer. It will take 2 to 4
days to get here (which means there is
a slim chance of it being delivered on
Saturday, and in time for some cans
and/or bottles to be chilled ready for
drinking on Sunday afternoon), and
will also mean I won't have to go
looking for new beers in Aldi,
although I will be going there,
maybe
even today, and will keep an eye out
for anything new or known to be nice.
After ordering my new beers on
line, all 24 cans/bottles, I sat back
and relaxed after a job well done
(sort of). In fact I relaxed a little
bit too much. I started off reading,
and then my eyes closed. The next
thing I knew was that Jodie was
ringing my doorbell. I hastily pulled
on a t-shirt, and let her in. I don't
think she brought any beers with her,
and that might have been unfortunate.
Fortunately Jodie was
recovering from two nights of drinking
a lot of beers at one or more of the
bars she goes to that specialise in
being the first to get new
batches/flavours of beers from some of
Jodie's favourite breweries. She
started off with a big can of lemon
radler, and then added water to make
it last longer. I started off
with a Shandyade (soft drink with a
beery taste), and then went on to can
of Murphy's stout.
A little bit later Michael
turned up. He usually brings some
beers. On rare occasions he gets a
beer that Jodie is unfamiliar with,
but usually he just gets the only
beers he knows how to buy - cheap
supermarket lagers. Like last week he
was not so deeply depressed and moany
as he has been, but he was still
barely cheerful. He left maybe 20
minutes after Jodie left, to meet Alan
for another session in a specialised
beer shop/bar, at just after 6pm.
There were a few choices for my
dinner, but would mean waiting while
they cooked (usually just 5 or 10
minutes in the microwave), but I opted
for a cold dinner. It was a (Tesco)
ready made salad with added ready
cooked/ready to eat cocktail sausages.
I admit it was a strange sort of
salad, but it was pleasant enough. I
finished the rest of the pack of
sausages by dowsing them in tomato
sauce, and strange liquid mustard.
The tomato sauce was made by
Brewdog, the brewers, and I knew it to
be loaded with sugar, but it had to be
used sooner or later. The mustard was
more like acid yellow custard with the
merest hint of mustard in it, and
maybe even a tiny hint of chilli. If I
recall correctly (and I am not going
to run downstairs to the fridge to
confirm it) it is described as
"Louisiana style mustard. Basically
that means an American recipe that
starts of with a non metric shedload
of high glucose corn syrup. Basically
it is yellow syrup that has been
stored in the same building as a pinch
of real mustard.
I didn't really have anything
better to do last night than to watch
Star Trek: The New Generation, and
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Both
seemed a bit dull, and I find it had
to remember what the basic plots were.
Once again I found that the next
programme was QI, and a brief
description of it made me think that
bed was a better option. I read on my
bed for a while, but the booze I had
earlier, which did end up including
two very strong beers that I had
almost to myself, made me feel sleepy,
and I fell asleep fairly quickly.
Last night was another night
when it was forecast it would be quite
cool by morning, and so I closed my
bedroom window to keep the warmth in.
The trouble was that there was too
much warmth, and I had to use the desk
fan to keep cool in the night. Often
that felt too cool, but without it was
too hot. I probably slept for maybe 2
hours before I woke up feeling
dreadful.
For one thing, bits of me felt
hot and sweaty, but where the draught
from the fan was hitting me I felt far
too cold. That was a repeated problem
later in the night. The other problem
was no more than a good old fashioned
hangover ! I got up and sat at my PC
while I took a couple of paracetamol
tablets, and waited for them to work.
I am usually lucky enough to sleep
through most hangovers, but last night
was a night where I was waking up
quite frequently, and often taking 10
to 30 minutes to get back to sleep.
By 6am I was feeling like I had
missed too much sleep. I tried to have
a long lie in. I did get snatches of
sleep, but it felt like I was awake
for most of the time. Having said
that, it did come as a surprise when I
realised it had gone 8am (almost
8.30am I think). I got up and went for
not just a pee, but a rather large
poo. Upon weighing myself I found I
had put on 600gm. That is pretty bad,
but possibly less so than some Friday
and Monday mornings after an afternoon
booze session.
My blood glucose was not very
good this morning, although all
readings were no far off my old
target, and none were in any dangerous
region. The Contour meter read
8.1mmol/l, and that is not bad. The
other three meters all roughly agreed
- which in the case of the Contour
Plus meter is a rare thing. The
GlucoRX meter read 8.8mmol/l, and so
did the Contour Plus meter. The new
GlucoFix meter read
very slightly
better at 8.7mmol/l. Like my weight
gain, I seem to have come away from
"the morning after" quite lightly.
I have no definite, and few
very indefinite things that I might do
today. I guess I feel sort of lazy
today. Maybe this morning I can use
the excuse of a bad night leaving me
feeling tired and unenthusiastic. I
may go shopping in Aldi today despite
having done an online beer order. Aldi
sells much more than beer ! I feel
like I ought to go for a longer walk
than just to Aldi. A walk in the
Linear Park, which usually works out
to be around 3 miles, would be
sufficient as exercise, but that park
is a bit boring these days. Another
possibility is to jump on a train to
Elmers End and do some tram spotting
while walking around the South Norwood
Country Park. I might just lay on my
bed reading all day. I'll obviously
report what I actually do today when I
write tomorrow !
