Yesterday's weather was very much
like forecast. It was sunny all day,
and the temperature reach the
forecast 29° C for a single hour at
5pm. (Actually I made that last bit
up - I wasn't watching the
thermometer enough to say it with
any conviction).
This morning has started off
rather dull. This is as forecast, but
there is some dispute about when we
will first see the sun. The BBC
forecast (above) says 1pm, and the Met
Office says 10am. Both forecasts saay
the afternoon will only see sunny
spells, but from about 5pm we could
have non stop sunshine until sunset.
No rain is forecast for today, and the
temperature may only rise to 24° C (or
possibly 25° C for a single hour).
Tomorrow may feature almost non stop
sunshine, but a high of only 23° C is
forecast.
Yesterday I managed to keep
this electronic diary down to 1,675
words. Considering how little I did
yesterday, I ought to be able to make
it even shorter. In theory it was a
boring day, but it didn't seem to feel
that way. Maybe I really did need the
extra rest after a very poor night the
previous night.
I got off to a very late start
yesterday morning because I was
attempting to get a bit more sleep
before getting up. I did get up almost
2 hours late, but I didn't seem to
sleep much in that time. I enjoyed my
breakfast of just a single packet of
instant noodles - because my weight
and blood glucose results were so
atrocious, or seemed that way. In
reality neither was that bad, and both
were almost acceptable.
The idea that they were far too
high must have somehow seeped into the
inner recesses of my brain, and
without really trying, I ate very
carefully, and this morning gave me
good results. I sort of, and sort of
didn't feel bored yesterday. I did do
some minor things like giving the
kitchen a wipe over, and washing up
everything that needed washing up.
That was probably my main offering to
the day.
I spent much of yesterday
reading, snoozing, more reading and
also reading stuff on the internet.
One thing I didn't do, or couldn't be
bothered to do, was to have a
wash/shower. Earlier on I thought I
should wash, but that was based on the
idea that I might go out somewhere. It
would have been nice to get some hot
sun on my body, but it was also nice
to stay in, out of the sun, and
slightly cooler - although I think my
bedroom was often warmer than the more
shade parts of the back of the house
where my outdoor thermometers are.
My lunch was no more than rice
crackers and cheese. I did have a late
afternoon snack of a few small packets
of crisps, but it was not long to wait
until dinner time. My dinner was the
biggest meal of the day, which is
fairly usual. I had two grilled
beefburgers (probably quarter
pounders, although I can't remember
the pack saying as such) with a few
old and starting to shrivel baby plum
tomatoes - also gilled - plus a very
small can of sweetcorn.
I am unsure if that dinner
could be described as low anything.
The burgers would/should have had a
very low sugar content, but the
tomatoes and sweet corn would be the
opposite. I suppose, being grilled,
the fat content would have been low. I
have no idea of the calorie count. All
I do know is that I followed it up
with quite a small portion of ice
cream. Unless I have forgotten
something, that accounts for all I ate
yesterday. Curiously it all felt quite
satisfying.
"Quite satisfying" is more than
I can say of my TV entertainment last
night. The BBC 6 O'clock news was
neither good nor bad. Star Trek: The
New Generation, and Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine were not great, but good
enough to watch. At 9pm it seemed like
QI would be a load of twaddle, and so
I went to bed. This time I left the
window open, but drew the curtains.
With the desk fan on low, and pointing
more towards my legs than my face, I
seemed to sleep well last night.
Trying a bit harder to regulate
the temperature of my bedroom would
have helped, but I think/believe
having a big sleep deficit helped much
more. I don't really remember much
until about 4am. I know I got up to
pee several times before that, and I
may have turned the fan off at 4am, or
perhaps before. I do remember not
getting back to sleep for a short
while after getting up to pee at 4am.
It was just after 6am when I
got up, and I definitely needed a pee,
and I thought I needed a poo. Maybe
that will happen later, but it was no
surprise all I managed was to pass a
little wind. I was probably empty
after I had another big poo after I
had finished writing yesterday. That
made 3 very productive poos yesterday
morning. There can't have been much
left inside of me. Anyway, this
morning I am happy to say I seemed to
be 500gm lighter, and back in the blue
on my spreadsheet results code.
My blood glucose was
exceptionally good this morning. The
Contour meter read a very nice
6.9mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter read even
better at 6.6mmol/l. The Contour Plus
meter read higher, as it is prone to
do, and this morning it was 7.3mmol/l,
and that is still very good. I didn't
get a reading from the new GlucoFix
meter because the very last test strip
produced an error message. I don't
think it like the blood I offered it
(I was having trouble squeezing out a
4th sample of blood - it was from my
right forefinger, and the skin is very
thick on that finger).
I think today is the day I
really must go to Aldi, although Tesco
might be an alternate possibility.
There are a few things that Aldi has
that draws me to Aldi every now and
then. In preparation for that I
definitely need to have a shower
today. I may even wash my hair. The
downside of it is that it actually
feels chilly in the bathroom this
morning. I think it is closer to 20° C
than the forecast 19° C, but the
breeze coming through the window feels
like 18° C - or less.
If I go shopping I won't want
to go for a long walk today, and
anyway this dull weather doesn't make
me want to go out for anything more
than essential shopping. I guess I
will stay in (unless I have a
brainstorm or something and go out
early evening when it should be very
sunny). One useful way of passing a
bit of time might be to do some
laundry. I have said it before, and
done nothing about it, but I could hit
some of my garden with the strimmer.
It would be nice to get down the
garden path without getting my legs
stung by a proliferation of nettles !
